Colour pencil on white card. An electric precision eraser is giving me new mark-making options – especially the ability to precisely lift off dots of material – so little dots are working overtime here – being used to: a) convey the texture of orange peel, b) approximate masses of small light reflections on the kiwi fruit, c) flecks on the apple skin.
The white card is textured and whereas I suppressed that with heavy mark-making on the fruit, it comes through in the cast shadows – to interesting effect – proxying for the surface texture on which everything sits.
I was looking at some Wayne Thiebaud recently – I think that’s where the blue, blue shadows are coming from.

Does it work without the colour? I think it does (albeit kinda boring).
