get some cube shelving that, in some combination, will closely match the width of the alcove..
get some furniture legs..
and some furniture connector bolts..
and put it all together!
In my case 2 x the unit pictured above closely matched the width of the alcove. And I stacked them two high – so eight units in all. Furniture legs on the bottom ones. Bolted together with the connector bolts. The finishing touch is some scribed fillets made from stripwood to cover the small gaps between the shelves and the chimney breast and walls. I’ve left some shelves open and some filled with matching fabric boxes.
