Exploring composition … All unbalanced in terms of overall picture composition but I’m as much interested in the shadows as the rest.
I’ve chosen the set-up bottom right (against instinct) because the lighting of the apples is less obvious – very little direct sunlight/shadow – but a lot of reflected light bouncing around – more challenging.
Using my new Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils! (I feel the need to work with colour sometimes). Have I succeeded?
I quite like the apples. I scratched into the paper with a nail scissors to get the flecks on the skin and had done some cursory blending in – but not enough.
The wine bottle works in parts but has a “painting-by-numbers” look in places. The bottle’s shadow could do with more work – I haven’t totally pulled off the effect I was after. Also not quite the right size/shape. Shadows could be darker overall.
I may tweak a bit but I should probably move on – lots more to get into Part 3.
I couldn’t help myself! A reworking of the shadows… I’m done with it now.
