Hmm. I started out using a very thick, tacky, water-based relief ink. It worked great for the abstract stuff but very difficult to work with here. See the two lower, aborted pieces. It was just very difficult to lift the ink off the plate in a controlled or subtle manner.
I then switched to black oil paint – the upper image. Better, but I won’t become a master printer any day soon. I might try the oil with thinner and I’ve also got some acrylic retarder – might have a bash with that. Unfortunately not enough time to do for this exercise.
