
No – not him. An exercise in using just two complementary colours.
A couple of beer bottles and some oranges. The bottles are a dark brown in real life – Duval beer (a very nice but very strong Belgian offering). I thought I might have trouble painting them in a different colour but it was easier than I expected.
I started with mid blue-grey ground – I found that practice useful from a previous exercise.
The shadows fan out like that because I had the light source very close by. Would the casual viewer realise that or just think the shadows are off?
The mug was a late addition – I felt the need for another splash of orange there. The mug is mine – the orange fox motif was taken from an on-line image.
The counter top edge is an invention. I wanted an orange to traverse light and dark areas because I wanted some extra orange/strong blue juxtaposition.
