
The brief was to look at the overlooked – what might seem mundane at first but can come to life when you start really looking at the different shapes and colours.
They (?) say all art is craft but not all craft is art. What is this? Lots of craft going on here – letter tiles cut down to size and hot-glued on, letter stencils and modelling paste, sand-textured gel.
I took a picture of a manhole cover several months ago because the colours caught my eye. Although very subtle, the main surface was a rust orange and the raised areas a blue/purple – and I was dealing with complementary colours at the time. I ramped up the colour saturation in a photo editor to really bring the colours out.
